Carthage is only 1 mile from Big Red Barn RV Park and offers some wonderful diversions including: The famous Carthage Square with the centerpiece internationally recognized Jasper County Courthouse; the noted Victorian architecture of the shops on the square; the maple tree lined streets with their awe inspiring Victorian homes.

Close by you can see the Carthage Civil War Battle site and other historic locales, the Kendrick Place a rare southwest antebellum home, and the national monument at the site of George Washington Carver's birth and childhood.

The Civil War Museum just off the square and the Powers Museum of Victorian Carthage History are close by and no charge. Precious Moments Inspiration Park Chapel are just across the highway. Don't miss all the antique shopping, or the affordable golf very close by. The Carthage Municipal Course was just renovated in 2002. Just eight miles east is a very nice little nine hole course.

Horseback riding is nearby too and for the evening entertainment on alternate Fridays there is bluegrass, county and folk music on the square. Several times a year a local dinner theatre offers a touch of Broadway and a little bit more.
